Our Endeavour as NGO
Suyash Charitable Trust was founded in 1980 by Yashwant alias Mohanrao Ghaisas and Smita Ghaisas with the vision of transforming the lives of Vanvasi (forest-dwelling) communities. They realized that true upliftment could come only through financial independence — and the most powerful path was agricultural development. For over four decades, Suyash has worked to make Vanvasi villages self-reliant, self-respecting, and virtuous, without any government or external financial aid.

Growing Fruit Plants and Other Annual Crops on Barren Land
Project's of Suyash's Self-Help Groups (SHG's)
The Jagannath Bachat Gat in Odisha decided in 2016 to cultivate broom grass in Palukhula and Kalibori villages. Earlier, this grass used to grow naturally in these villages. But because of its demand, the group decided to cultivate it systematically. The broom grass planted in June would be ready for harvesting and made into brooms by February and March. Other self-help groups in the region have also taken up broom grass cultivation and earned a good income. Earlier, this grass used to grow like a weed in the forests. Suyash taught the Vanvasis to grow it in their fields and make brooms. About 500 tribal community families get an annual turnover of over Rs. 80 lakh from the broom industry.

Transformative Actions
Special Activities
Farmers can increase their income by growing tuber crops, vine plants, bamboo, or other perennial trees on hilly and barren land
Tuber Crops:
Farmers are encouraged to grow tuber crops like ghorkand, suran, and sweet potato on less fertile hilly land during the Kharif season. Cultivation on ten gunthas of land can yield around โน30,000, while an average farmer earns about โน18,000 from four to five gunthas. These crops require no irrigation and are widely adopted in Vanvasi areas.

Bamboo and Fruit Trees on Barren Land:
Vanvasis are encouraged to cultivate bamboo and fruit trees on dry, barren land to improve soil and generate long-term income. Bamboo matures in about four years, providing sustainable earnings and land development.

Vine Vegetables:
After the Kharif season, vine vegetables help farmers earn additional income using minimal water and barren land. Grown on five gunthas during both Kharif and Rabi seasons, they can yield up to โน25,000 annually and start producing within 60–70 days of sowing.

Processing Industry and Marketing:
Under Suyash’s guidance, over 4,800 self-help groups with 57,000+ women engage in activities like running rice, chilli, and pulse mills; making brooms, papad, and incense sticks; and marketing produce. These SHGs enable direct selling, grading, and improved income through better financial management and training.
